This piece embodies the visceral sensation of the phrase, “my stomach is in knots.” The left side features a bright, textured pink—Muka’s signature color—and a wide, gummy smile, a nod to her earlier series, *Mini Gummy Bears*. In her earlier works, Teddy often appeared without a mouth, symbolizing MUKA’s inner child, who for much of her life, felt compelled to remain quiet and composed. The introduction of the gummy smile marks a turning point in her artistic journey, reflecting her growing confidence and rebellious spirit. Now, Teddy speaks, loudly and unapologetically, through exaggerated and messy expressions that demand attention.
As always, the "X" eye on Teddy’s left side remains a staple in Muka’s work, symbolizing that "not everything is what it seems," as she continues to delve into life’s complex emotional landscapes. The right side of Teddy, however, is a chaotic display of misplaced anatomy, with a prominently oversized stomach, emphasizing the title and theme of the piece. This distorted representation highlights those moments when something feels undeniably "off," but you struggle to articulate exactly what. Emotions become muddled and confusing, leaving you wishing you had trusted your gut instincts from the start.
